HAVFISK is solely a fishing company, operating Norway's largest trawler fleet. The group has nine trawlers in operation at the beginning of 2016, plus a new build under construction. The vessels fish for cod, haddock, saithe, redfish, Greenland halibut and shrimps.

In 2015, HAVFISK achieved operating revenues of NOK 1,131 million. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) amounted to NOK 403 million. Net profit for 2015 was NOK 173 million, equal to NOK 2.04 per share. HJAVFISK had 381 employees at the end of 2015.

HAVFISK has 29.6 quotas for cod and haddock, which corresponds to about 11 per cent of the total cod quotas in Norway. HAVFISK has 31.9 quotas for saithe. Other species were also harvested, including Greenland halibut, redfish and shrimps. The total catch in 2015 was 58,214 tonnes, including 28,875 tonnes of cod, 7,943 tonnes of haddock and 9,086 tonnes of saithe. Other fish species increased by 1,273 tonnes to 8,294 tonnes in 2015.

The catch rate (volume per day) was somewhat reduced compared with 2014, mainly because of a reduction in cod quotas. Harvesting income per operating day increased in 2015, as a result of higher prices for most species. All the fish is headed and gutted on board and delivered fresh or frozen.

At the beginning of 2016, the fleet consists of four freezer trawlers and five combination trawlers (fresh-fish trawlers with freezing capacity). Operation of the trawlers is through the subsidiary shipowners Nordland Havfiske AS, Finnmark Havfiske AS and Hammerfest Industrifiske AS. The main administration is in Ålesund, with branch offices in Hammerfest and Stamsund.

The largest shareholder in HAVFISK is  Aker Capital AS (wholly owned subsidiary of Aker ASA),

with 73.25 per cent of the shares. Foreigners owned 4.7 per cent of the shares at 31 December 2015.

HAVFISK operates its activities on the basis of official permits that give the group the right to harvest Norway's fish resources. HAVFISK intends to be a “Proud manager” and contribute to sustainable fishing with as little environmental impact as possible. HAVFISK is the largest single industry participant in wild-harvested fish in Norway, and thus a significant supplier of healthy marine proteins to a growing global population.

Work on health and safety and the environment is a priority for HAVFISK. There is great awareness in day-to-day operations of avoiding injuries and reducing consumption of energy and environmentally damaging substances.
